Was in town with family on vacation. Cautiously, I trusted Yelp to deliver a good breakfast recommendation. Chubby's - the food was AWESOME. Or as awesome as standard pancakes and bacon can get. I'm a fan, though, as this was up there with the best. My friend had eggs benedict, they tasted great, but the pancakes. Wish I knew what was in the batter, because it was unusual, but awesome. The edges had a slight crisp to them, so it was a treat. Our waiter Brian was great, and we left full and happy. And reasonably priced, about the only thing in the Crown Center area that was. (Not really *in* the area, but close!) Downside - not the best part of town. Some rough/scary folks in there, some obvious "regulars" at the counter that were there just to spend their day, I supposed. Couple gang-looking dudes came in and out, and a few homeless looking people. Anyway, I'd probably go back, even with the odd folks milling around. Lots of tattoos and corn rows, but everyone was genuine and nice.

What a lot of people are saying is true. It's probably better drunk. My issue is portion size. $6 for 2 chicken strips is hardly tolerable at a great restaurant, nevermind a diner. Granted it came off the appetizers menu but still. The food was so unimpressive for the price tag too. Dry chicken.

Sat at the counter for 10 minutes without any recognition, manager/cook yelled 'I don't F#*+@$& care how the food tastes. Worst experience in KC yet, place is in shambles

The food is pretty good, with a diverse menu of burgers, sandwiches, dinner, and breakfast options. The service is decent, but the patrons past 10 are usually drunk or sketchy looking. I'm glad they instituted an 18 percent autograt on parties of 4 or more, given the stress those poor servers must endure. Overall, I have always left satisfied.

Chubby's was going to get four stars, because I had two visits in a row that were pretty good. This should probably be two star review, except the manager (I think) tried her best to salvage the situation. 4:00 on a Sunday afternoon, I arrive and place my order fairly soon. I ordered the Buffalo Chicken sandwich. Not asked if I wanted anything to drink. So I had to mention I want a diet soda. So, I wait. And wait. And wait. And wait. No soda, no cinnamon roll to pass the time. Yes, a cinnamon roll is supposed to come with every meal. Eventually I get my sandwich. Looks good. I noticed no mayonnaise, still don't have my soda. I try falling out of the booth to get the managers attention. She noticed, and ran over. I asked, "Can I get some mayonnaise and the diet Dr Pepper I ordered half an hour ago?". She promptly brought them, and the cinnamon roll. All the food was good, and the portion huge. Like I said, the two previous visits were fine, and would have merited a four star review. I will be going back, in the hope that this was a fluke. And the manager cut the check in half (there were many complaints from other customers as well). I still recommend Chubby's, but you might have to be doing more work than you expect to when going out to eat.

I came here with two drunk friends who wanted some late-night eats. We came in around 11:30pm and were seated right away in a booth. Our server was sweet and attentive and very patient. There was a lot of great people-watching and an interesting crowd. The menu is a typical diner-style menu with breakfast all day and lots of other options. My friends both got breakfast (egg dishes) and I got a cheeseburger and fries. It was cheap (mine was around $6 with tax) and the food came out very quickly. The food was good, and I wasn't even drunk! I can't wait to come back when I am though, it is probably even more delicious when intoxicated!

Ohhh yumm! Best hamburger on Broadway hands down! Place is super retro and has little juke box machines on each table.

Not sure why my review disappeared.... I think it's important to note. Used to be a favorite. New ownership. Pancakes aren't as good as they were. They used to be as big as the plate and taste like cake, now they are average size and below average taste. Last time one of mine tasted like it was cooked with a hamburger.

I love this place! I can't say enough good things about it. This is the best diner food that you will find in Kansas City. So many good memories here, it is definitely worth checking out.

Horrible experience. Male server rolling silverware rudely yelled at the female in our group 'this section isn't open!' Then the unprofessional manager treated us like we were an inconvenience when we came to spend our hard earned money while in town visiting. Don't waste your time trying this place

If you're looking for a shady late night pig-out joint then Chubby's is your place. When I went here with my girlfriend for dinner I felt more like I was visiting a Psych ward. The customers and staff were equally scary. This was one of the most uncomfortable dining experiences I've ever had. I will definitely not be returning! I gave this place one star because, well, 1. I can't give it 0 starts and 2. It caters perfectly to the late night crowd I assume. Maybe my problem was that I went when the sun was still out? Anyways, dine at your own risk

Oh Chubby"s :)...lol whether you just woke up and want to eat breakfast or have been out all night and need sustainance before bed...this place has got you covered! Always greeted by a friendly staff, this place gives me good vibes with it's atmosphere and the 60's diner motif complete with jukeboxes per table. The standard breakfast consisting of eggs, bacon, hash browns, and toast is pretty good here. A little on the oily side, but with the cheap prices here, you can't really complain too much...and really...it's a diner, so expect greasy foods hehe I'm glad that they have healthier alternatives though, since I've been trying to stick to one of my new year's resolutions of eating healthier (so hard to do, especially when yelp points me to all these great food places). They have these bomb salads...which they serve in epic proportions...literally they are some of the biggest salads I've ever seen. The thing that I ordered recently was their oatmeal. Can never go wrong with oatmeal, but they cook it right. I might have to ask them what brand they use. :) So if you're in the mood for greasy diner food....this is one of your options....haha there's so many diner's in this area, so hard to choose sometimes especially since they are all mostly open 24/7! Happy Eating!

Not for the up tight... This place has not changed at all in a very long time. I visited on a Saturday morning and enjoyed a nice breakfast and some friendly banter from the staff and regulars. I ordered The Works hash-browns, but I could have gone for a side of eggs as well. My server was very friendly and I enjoyed my visit. I guess I enjoy people watching sometimes and Chubby's is the spot for a good session. LOL

Worst service I've ever seen in a table service restaurant. Food has always been average. Good only when you're wasted at 3am.

Spotty service and spotty food quality. There's no way to predict what you'll get here as to even the same menu item. Skip Chubby's and try one of the many other places to eat in KC. I've tried to eat here a few times over a few months and the roulette of guessing what you'll get quality wise, isn't worth it.

My boyfriend and I went to eat at Chubby's for a late brunch on New Years. We arrived at about 11:30 AM to a very strange mix of people. Sorority girls, old couples, and even a pair of girls still dressed in their NYE best (nearly 12 hours later!) The hostess at the door was VERY friendly and sat us promptly. We were charmed by the jukebox at the table and the complimentary cinnamon rolls. Our waitress was to the point, not very friendly but not rude either. My boyfriend ordered the biscuits and gravy plate (the "#4") and the loaded chocolate chip pancakes. I ordered the herb grilled chicken sandwich with garlic aioli (trying to be a little healthier for the New Year, you know). While his meal was "the best breakfast [he'd] ever tasted. Ever", I would like to rename mine "garlic aioli sandwich with a chicken breast somewhere in there". There was SO MUCH aioli. Like, dripping off my fork (yes, I had to use a fork because it was too messy for my hands). This place is called "Chubby's", so it is probably my mistake for trying to eat healthy ;). I will probably return and try one of those "best" breakfasts! PS- the pancakes were delicious.

Oh Chubby's. My old and dear friend. The free cinnamon rolls to start just really made my morning, even though I try to avoid carbs. (lets not talk about my wine consumption - that is for another day!) I think I like them better at 3 am for greasy breakfast than at 8am, but it was all still good. Our server was great and we never ran dry on our coffee - a very important thing!! Hashbrowns are awesome and the pancakes have a bit of a buckwheat flavor to them. My hubs found that offputting, but I rather liked it. I don't know that I'd be a true "regular" here - my waistline couldn't handle it, but an occasional visit isn't a bad thing.

New Year's Eve. Drinks have been drunk. The weather is chilly. The shoes have become the enemy. Cabs are hotly fought over. Where to go? What to do? Duh. You go get greasy comfort food as close as humanly possible to your location. As I was at the Uptown, Chubby's it was! This was my first visit and it was all a greasy spoon needed to be. Cheesy mushroom omelet with potatoes. Check! Friendly, patient waitstaff accustomed to dealing with drunks? Check. This isn't haute cuisine, people. This is what you need after a binge. It does what it does just fine.

I'll preface by saying walking in my expectations where super low waking in at 4am on a Saturday night/ Sunday morning. Food is okay. Service is terrible. Drinks where foul and tasted moldy. Waited for about 20min or more before anyone even said high. Should have left then. All in all waited about two hours for mediocre food and even worse service.

    (1)
  • Ronny K.

it's a diner, so lower your expectations a little bit. the cinnamon rolls on the table before we even ordered was a treat and our waitress was a sweetheart, but our main dishes were just okay.

You know when you're young, dumb and drunk at 2am. Chubby's is amazing and tastes like heaven for only a few bucks. The Chubby's meal with a peanut butter and chocolate shake could serve an entire table of underage teens. I used to dip my fries in my milkshake because YOLO. I have fond memories of Chubby's parking lot. Sitting on trash bags in the back of pickup trucks, drinking beer and getting cat called by street walkers. Good times... I went back to Chubby's recently, full of nostalgia and happy memories. I found that nothing had changed. You'd think this was a good thing?! It actually felt like walking into an AA meeting after you've been clean for 20 years and seeing all the same people that were there 20 years ago. The same bad coffee, food and lighting. Chubby's holds a special place in KC's heart, even if that heart is now full of cholesterol.

Say hello to your typical all-American-I-love-'murica diner! Your not coming here to get you're fine dining experience, let's be real. It's a quick stop for your breakfast craving, burger craving, down and dirty meal. Prices are very fair and the wait staff are a hoot. Open 24 hours so you'll find your sketchy crowd but again, you're not coming here for a fine dining experience. Absolutely packed on a Sunday afternoon around the noon hour.

Our bill was $36, our order was wrong. Waitress had an attitude about it. But yet I left a $5 cash tip and paid the bill with credit card. I just got my statement and they added a $10 tip to the credit card slip. I will never eat here again

  • Tarrah B.

Nope. Never again. As a food critic, I love trying new things. But this was not good. We wanted a late night burger and we love 50s diners! So we gave it an old college try. There was only one waiter. The table was dirty. It took almost an hour for our food to come out. After that we had to wait another hr for our check because the waiter was out on a smoke break. Not what we were expecting. The food was "okay" I guess. Even during a drunken night, I'll go to Dennys next time. Bluck!!!!

Four stars but I have mixed feelings about this place. This was for breakfast on Sunday morning. Service was above average, food was well prepared with good quality ingredients. Price was just what you'd expect. Portion size was a little on the large size but not huge. But maybe it was just the time of day, but my son remarked on the weird customer mix and I noticed it too. A hipster couple and mostly people in their 70's, not what I expected in that neighborhood. I'd go back but only if someone else wanted to, but I'd pick another place first.

  • Jay C.

Crappiest service I have ever had. The cooks in the morning can't cook at all. My 70 year old grandma can cook better than them all and she's blind. Smh. I will say after a night of drinking this is the place to go to get some good ruffage on your stomach! You can tell there are different cooks as well! Won't go again in the mornings (7-11am) but possibly in the future after a night out..

Well, I haven't been here in ages but we used to go back in the day and it was ok "drunk" food. I've been during the day a couple of times and decided it was better to dine there after going to the bars and not for a regular meal. With that said, the last time I was there, about 10 years ago, my friend and I went there after the bars closed and gobbled our food down as a riot was building out on the street. We barely got out of there as the Popo converged on the riotous teens. I said, never again. So, we're out after Irish Fest and a trip to Barcadia and we're happy and I'm not driving and we go to Town Topic but the Hipsters have taken over and a line is coming out into the rain. Nope, better try Chubby's. Well...it took an hour to get our food. The server was sweet but disorganized and overworked. The restaurant manager spent most of his time hollering at and arguing with the cook staff behind the scenes. I was sitting in a booth where I could see and hear everything. The food was ok. I had a meat lover's omelet or something like that and it was good and generous portion. My friends had a giant burger and a tenderloin. I will continue to avoid Chubby's.

I tend to avoid the weekend late night crowds so I visit during the day for lunch usually. I like the eggs and ham with biscuit. Really good size portions. Breakfast food is something I don't often make at home so I like to order it out. The hashbrowns are great! The waitresses do a decent job and are real waitresses as opposed to kids workng at other places. These gals know if you are OK with just one glance. I love it!

I wonder why this place is called Chubby's... but one thing's for sure, the food here will probably make your chubby if you come here often. It was about 10pm and we came here after we watched a movie on a Sunday. There were a few spots in the parking on the side of this place. Inside, the restaurant had a diner theme to it with a jukebox playing. That's cool. A few tables were occupied but it was pretty empty. The menu had a lot of choices and I'm sure there was something for everybody. I wanted an omelette so I ordered the Western Omelette ($9.19) and chose hash browns and biscuits. It took about 30 minutes for our food to come to our table. We were all talking about random stuff but we were all pretty hungry. I think it was because they were making everybody's food at once... all 5 of us. My Western Omelette was okay, but the Cholula Hot Sauce I added made it better. The hash browns and biscuits were also okay and nothing special. I was full when I finished everything and that was a lot of food. I definitely got my money's worth with the portion. Chubby's was a good place to grab something to eat for that late night craving of omelettes or pretty much almost any breakfast-related dishes.

  • Rebekah E.

Service was super friendly even though I went on an off time 4pm. Plus they give out free cinnamon rolls. They aren't just any cinnamon rolls either but the kind that melt in your mouth competing with your grandma's cooking. I ordered a simple cheeseburger and curly fries and I could not be more excited. The burger was thin but still perfectly light pink on the middle. The grilled onions were on point and the fries just the right amount of crunchiness. Overall it was a cheap and overwhelmingly wonderful experience will go again!

We love looking for local places to eat when traveling so when drove by and saw locals pouring in we had to stop. We were immediately greeted and saw the huge portions going by. We had 3 kids with us but they sat is quickly on this Sunday around 10 . We were brought homemade cinnamon rolls and welcomed by several waitresses bringing the rolls and water. The staff were running their butts off but we never suffered because of it. I had 1/4 order of biscuits and gravy. It came with hash browns for $3.99. My husband had 1/2 order and we were stuffed. Kids had pancakes and bacon. Five people and our bill was $30. Great staff, clean and good food. We will be back!

This is THE place to go when the debauchery gets done a little early and you want a big, filling breakfast at one in the morning. Diner-style food -- great burgers, great curly fries, great shakes. Decent breakfast menu served all day, the grits are good, and the prices are a steal. It's always a wildly eclectic crowd, especially after the bars close. Service can be a little slow & scattered, but that's OK, it just gives you more time to people-watch.

Alright, the only thing on the menu I can review so far is the peanut butter chocolate shake, but it's definitely enough to earn a Yay! I'm a fan! They're HUGE-they bring you a whole metal mixer container and an old-fashioned milkshake glass with a spoon, which you'll need-it's too thick for a straw. BTW, it's not on the menu-the waitress said they just throw some peanut butter in a chocolate shake. The best part is the lumps of PB that don't completely mix in! My friend ordered a reuben and fries to go so I didn't get to try it, but he said it was good. The place is cute inside, very 50's-Diner, complete with tableside jukeboxes. The staff is very friendly, including a host/hostess at the door to greet you and says thanks for coming in as you leave. Stay tuned one of these days for a breakfast review...

Oh Chubby's, how I love thee. I'll start with the food, first off the food here is not healthy, they aim for flavor rather than stopping a heart attack but it's worth it. At first it may seem a little expensive based on the menu, but the amount of food you get definitely makes up for it. Had a double cheeseburger with curly fries. It was amazing, the burger was fully cooked while not getting burnt, the outside had a nice crunch to it while the inside was nice and moist (there was no pink). The bun held up really well too. Well seasoned, plenty of flavor while not being overpowering, the grilled onions were in my opinion a little overdone but still tasted fantastic. The fries, well basically the only difference between curly fries and the regular fries was the shape, flavor and texture were both relatively the same but I did notice that the ones in our group who ordered curly fries got a lot more fries then the people who ordered regular fries. The fries themselves were well cooked as well, crunchy on the outside and fluffy on the inside. The service was phenomenal, absagain.ly loved the waiter. Even if the food wasn't so good I would still go again just because of the service they provide. She kept our glasses full and made us feel welcome. The food also came out in a timely manner. Then also the place itself was quite clean. The whole restaurant is themed after the old diners, even have a jukebox at every table. They serve breakfast all day; eggs, pancakes, sausage, the basic breakfast foods. They also serve the classic burgers and sandwiches and have a decent selection of shakes. I will definitely go here again

What a scary location! I almost didn't feel safe in the parking lot, and the staff inside wasn't any more settling on the nerves. I am pretty sure the diner robbery scene in Pulp Fiction was inspired by this joint. I sat at the bar for a shake with the family and was highly unraveled by the appearance of the staff and the LOUD conversation content being carried on between them. I guess when you're a perfect storm you have no shame in your game. If I thought for a second they touched any portion my food with their bare hands I would have blown my stack...even just a slight brush by a finger tip when dropping off plates. One of the girls was a bit on the thick side, was wearing sweat pants, and the bottom of her gut was hanging out of a baby doll t-shirt that was too small for her. The busser was sweating like a pig, he wiped his face off with a white towel he had hanging from his back pocket, then he used THE SAME TOWEL to wipe off the table he was bussing. N-A-S-T-Y!!!!! I will not be returning...I have been thoroughly grossed out on many levels.

Used to go here regularly a couple years ago. Went there Sunday feb 15 and it totally sucked and wife and I walked out. Service was hideous and the employees we complained to really didn't seem to care. Don't know what happened to this place it used to be good.

So you have just been out for the night and you are not ready to call it quits and you are hungry. What to do? Find a 24 hour diner that serves all the classic diner faves and serves them (breakfast, lunch, and dinner faves) 24 hours a day. That would be Chubby's on Broadway. This past Sunday after attending Paris of the Plains, we needed food and went to Chubby's. Our server was great. She was like a friend we hadn't caught up with in years, she was a lot of fun and very good at her job while being very personable. I had the Big One (half pound cheeseburger) and my friend had eggs and bacon. She cleaned her plate. I on the other hand could not. A rarity when I eat a burger. The burger was already larger than I thought and it was served with a mountain of curly fries. The burger was a tad dry, but had great flavor. The fries were nice and crisp which is a rarity I find with most diner curly fries. After we had eaten, we were not rushed out at all. In fact we were encouraged to sit and chat as long as we liked. Another nice diversion from the typical restaurants. I will definitely be back to Chubby's soon.

Grossest breakfast I've had in years! The bacon was chewy, not crispy and they couldn't get the hashbrowns done on both sides. Not enough waitresses! My mom had to ask for the rest of her $7 burger. It was the size of a dollar Wendy's burger.

I was brought here by a new neighbor, after humping boxes to pure exhaustion during my metro areas move. For having lived in KC area, dining all over the place, I was surprised; I ordered a cheese omelette, wasn't interested in potatoes for the side, but obliged their offer "it comes with", so I took fried potatoes, meh isn't qualifying enough, the spuds were raw, and the indegestion kept me up for hours. I'll take that as a buyer beware. The neighborhood 25 years ago was risky, however there are more current risks to consider. The 10-20 has a few thumbs downs, including both the Salvation Army and a plasma donation firm just within blocks across the street. I now live just over a quarter mile (w), and hear so much gunfire, what's happened to this area. My final note, if you're stopping in for a in network ATM, you will be punching buttons repeatedly until it decided what you want. I've never spent so long before for the same transaction elsewhere. On the way in I had too stoop to asking where the machine was, and was told it could be empty, and to go to the gas station halfway down the block..

Decent four am food. We've all been there when food and water is the only responsible thing standing between you and your car at the end of a long night (or early morning as the case may be). I ended up ordering the bacon and cheddar omelette figuring it would be a decent GF option on the menu though I didn't ask specifically if they put something like pancake batter in their eggs (hello IHOP...way to ruin eggs). Anyways, it was delicious though I suppose little wouldn't be after so many drinks. The cheese looked like a slice of the Kraft singles variety folded in half on top but whatever, I wasn't expecting gourmet. There was plenty of bacon though, for which I was grateful. Service was slow but the place was also hopping for so early in the morning. Pretty loud too.

Good service, great food. I had the big burger and shake the last time I was in there. Fantastic! Best shake I have had in a long time and the burger was wonderful and so big I couldn't quite put it all away! Best breakfast diner in KC, IMO.

Chubby's is what it is...a greasy diner. I have three issues that moved them from a four star greasy spoon to a one star "methinks not". 1.) I know the hours, but EVERY Monday at 2 PM until 5:30 AM on Tuesday this place should be cleaned - TOP TO BOTTOM! The stench of grease permeates every part of your being. A shower is a MUST after leaving here...just don't slip in the shower if you're that drunk. The exhaust fan OBVIOUSLY needs to be serviced and or cleaned and the fryers need to be drained, scrubbed with bleach, rewashed and then new grease added. The smell alone lets you know there is no cleaning going on here. Clean, clean. clean and then...clean!!!! 2.) Other than eggs (and I could not swear those are not a liquid blend), everything else is premade from a distributor - fries, pre-pattied burgers, pre-cut veggies, soups, cookies, etc. The prices are WAY TOO HIGH for such low quality food. But I get it, the drunks that pack this place late at night have no clue how ripped off they just got. But taking advantage is uncool too. Your crowd is either of a lower income level or drunk - and the prices just seem exploitative. Diners can do great food at reasonable prices...and with cooks in that kitchen (once it's clean), I'd love to see what they could do with fresh foods. The prices are in line with fresh cooking - why not do it?! 3.) This is NOT a chain. This is a local business that is sliding by on location and history. That alone is sad. Have some pride and clean your mess up. That said, what Chubby's does exceptional well is hire some of the fastest line cooks (hard to be slow with the product, but those guys hustle!) and the absolute friendliest wait staff. There are five star restaurants on the plaza that would be LUCKY to get this staff. How they smile though the grease fog and late night parade of drunks, I have no idea...they are some of (if not thee best) best servers in Kansas City. Ladies, take note...you could make a lot more money somewhere else! You cannot train personality! Can't go back...all the showers in the world can't get that funk off of me. Sheesh! Bleach is cheap, show some pride and clean the place up!!!

Huge portions for affordable prices, Chubby's offers exactly what I want in a diner -- breakfast all day long, people from all walks of life, and friendly, chipper service. I've been here for weekend breakfasts and week day dinners, and never once has it steered me wrong.

While staying the weekend with my daughter and son-in-law in KC they brought me the Chubby's cinnamon rolls and they were DELICIOUS! I will definitely ask for them again!

Average! Nothing special in terms of a diner, Pancakes were solid, chicken sandwich was just average, fries were the run of the mill fries

Huge portions. Great food. Morning noon or night Service is pretty good most the time. They do get the 3 am crowd. And being one of the few places open 24hrs a day your bound to have some one out side begging for money. Sunday mornings are actually pretty classy And as for the 3am food. It's far more up scale then waffle house. It's like a mom and pop i-hop

Having only been here one time, I like Chubby's. My experience here started on a night out with some friends on one of their birthdays. After we gambled away some money at Argosy, we were all hungry and driving around downtown and decided that some milkshakes sounded good. So lo and behold, we pull into Chubby's at 11:30pm and get ourselves a table. The service was good - the restaurant wasn't dead, but it certainly wasn't jam-packed either. Our waitress, who knew one of my friends well enough to know what kind of shake he wanted, was attentive and made sure that we had everything we needed. I ordered a chocolate peanut butter shake and some mac and cheese bites while my friends ordered shakes, chili cheese fries and buffalo chicken fingers. I loved the mac and cheese bites! They had the right amount of cheese and came out piping hot and served with some ranch on the side - so good! And the shake I ordered was HUGE. They give you a small glass for your shake when they bring it to you, but they also leave you with the metal shake mixing cup they made it in which easily gives you another glass and a half more to go! They're made by hand and rich and smooth. YUM! And, the prices here are cheap! My entire order, including tip, was only $12. Very worth it! I'll definitely be coming back!

Despite Chubby's reputation for being a drunken, sun rise diner, it also serves up mouth watering, fried goodness at regular dinner hours, as well. I adored the diner atmosphere. There was even a mini juke box at our table. 5 old school songs for a dollar to sway to while munching on mac and cheese wedges = the perfect dinner. The mac and cheese wedges with ranch were phenomenal!!! So was the clam chowder (with tons of crackers provided) and the vanilla milkshake. Chubby's: You totally made my day!

I have never stepped foot inside Chubby's during daylight hours. Why would I when it's a blast from 2:30 to 5:00 am. This is a great place to go for after-bar breakfast with a group of friends, or by yourself. It's typical diner fare, nothing spectacular, just good solid food that helps when the hard stuff is kicking your rear end with a vengeance. Jukeboxes on the table have led to many an impromptu sing along. If you want sausage, scrambled eggs, bacon, and toast or almost anything else they will gladly hook you up. Service is better than you would expect. In short...add this to your options for late night food in Kansas City. Note: CASH ONLY. But they do have an ATM with a sock it to ya fee if you like paying through the nose for your food.

As my 9 year old son says, if you go to Chubby's for breakfast too often, you will become chubby! He is right, which is why I only come here a few times a year... The italian bread french toast is really good, I mean really good... I wish I could stop with the french toast but I also order a chicken fried steak topped with gravy... I might be ok if I limited myself to french toast and chicken friend steak but who am I kidding... Bring me out some Hash browns O'Brien with peppers and onions... My oh my, I am stuffed and bloated just by writing this review... But breakfast was oh so good!

Best thing about finding the listing on Yelp was finding out they now take credit cards! Sweet. The story my friend Brian, a fellow entrepreneur, always tells about Chubby's took place about 5 years ago when we were starting our separate businesses, and I had forgotten to eat all day. Around 9pm, I ordered a breakfast, lunch, and dinner item, and ate them all in front of him. Yes, I'm a fatty in an Asian body. Envy me. I've been to Chubby's many times since, and my favorite question, if I have a story, is "you were there sober?" Great place to soak up that alcohol after a long night out, or a great place for pie and coffee, served at the counter, just like the old days.

Chubby's is...................Chubby's! You are either seated next to a midtown head wound victim with a bandage that needs to be changed or you are seated next to a church going family from the burbs. The waitresses are good. They are the kind of waitress that can handle any situation and also take an order and deliver food. They are quick and usually very nice, even though they might have gone to war just 10 minutes earlier. The food is good. It's diner food, breakfast to dinner. It's not gourmet or extremely healthy. It's good after bar food or good breakfast any morning of the week. (It's one of the few places in town you can get breakfast all day long.) The prices are really reasonable. So reasonable that it's hard to complain if it's not the best meal you have ever had. The place is clean overall. Sometimes it feels like salmonella might take up residency here, but generally it's very clean. It's midtown, it has flavor, it has character and it delivers what you need it to when you stop in. One of the best places in town to people watch, and that for me, is worth every second spent inside of Chubby's!

It was delicious!! The service was a little slow (the place was packed) and they were out of the macaroni n'cheese nuggets that everyone was jazzed about, but other than that it was a great experience. The portions were huge, the price was reasonable, and the food was delicious. Will definitely be coming back on my next trip!

The last few times I have been there I wasn't impressed. Service sucked and the portions were less each time- which as much as I don't like paying for less, it is so greasy it was a blessing in disguise. The waitress said she liked my tattoos as she was walking up, before anything else, and didn't say hello or any greeting except staring to tell us where she got her piercings and how much she loves them, then asked what we were drinking. just a little much, I want food not a background story. She didn't get the order right either, or give back the correct change. All in all, for greasy diner food I think it is overpriced and not worth the visit. I don; really care if I go back or not...

This place is so terrible, I honestly don't know why I keep coming back. The food is okay. Just okay. I love the cherry shakes and the juke box, but that is about it. I can go get sonic for practically the same price, same food, without the attitude from everyone here. Not exaggerating, pretty much every single time I have been to chubbys, which I would have to say if over 20 times (drunk and sober) there is always something wrong, something missing and a rude waitress. Donna is probably the only nice one even though she isn't the best waitress. I understand these waitresses have to deal with stupid drunk people, but at least be nice to the day people. The food isn't good enough for how terrible the service is.

Going to Chubby's is like hooking up with an ugly ex. It usually happens when it's late and you're drunk and you may or may not feel terrible about it the next day but you're definitely hung over and swearing it's the last time. The burgers are skinnier than the pile of onions they're smushed against. Not too much in the way of flavor here other than salt and grease but hey, there's a time and place for that. My biggest complaint is that I don't feel it's really as affordable as people think it is. The burger is around $5 with fries and it's not a terrible deal but when it's 50% bun you feel a little cheated. I ordered the corn nuggets last time I was in but they were out. I ordered mozzarella sticks instead and sure as hell I paid $5.99 for six Sysco Foods fake cheese product deep fried abominations. Even though the food is greasy diner mediocrity, the atmosphere is fun. Service is usually quick and friendly which is amazing considering how many drunken jerks they probably deal with each weekend. A server told me they are soon rolling out a new menu with a "Dinner for 2 for $20" Applebee's-style option. Interesting. All in all, Chubby's is a place for drunken jackassery, golden oldies on the jukebox, and bad culinary decisions. Alright but I've had better.

Chubby's does have one claim to distinction. It is open 24 hours a day, 6 days a week; and on the other day, Monday, it is open until 2 pm. If it were not for those unusual hours, I'd give it one star. If there were a prize for the worst food in the Midwest, this place would rank high. But its coffee? Maybe the worst in the country. They do have some decent tea bags. So if I have to stop there very late some night when everyplace else is closed, I'll go for the tea. To add insult to injury, they don't accept credit cards. This place is a throwback to the worst of the distant past. At least a Dunkin Donuts would have a decent cup of coffee.

I have only ever dined at Chubby's between the hours of 0200-0500. Those three magical hours of pure inebriation are when Kansas City puts on the best Drunk, Hot Mess Variety Show! I love it, I love it, I love it. Fisticuffs in the parking lot, scantily clad women barfing in the flower beds and butt cans, drag queens, local bands, national acts, and MST3K worthy commentary in the background, oh my! The only way it could possibly get better than this is if there were professional foot-masseurs at the ready. All manner of folks from all the different bars in Westport, Midtown, and the Plaza come to Chubby's for the hot coffee and greasy spoon foods that keep the Hangover Blues away for just a little while longer. There's every chance in the world that I was drunk when I cooed at my waitor or waitress about how much I loved the potatoes O'Brien (sp?) in some combination of French and American English. The jukeboxes at the tables are a very good place to surrender your quarters to! Don't be put off by Johnny Law at the door, and the counter. Trust me, you'll want them there if the natives get restless. Everytime I've been at Chubby's, I'm greeted with a "Hi Doll (Sweetie, Honey, etc.), how many? Okay, cool, right this way." I sit down to a big glass of water, and then another (because the waitstaff know I need it) and pour over the menu. Greasy diner food is all you need after a night of drinking and carrying on and Chubby's serves it to you with good humor and a good price! Chubby's is also the perfect place to continue that conversation with that so cute guy or so cute girl you met at the bar. If you have your wits in your brain as opposed to your loins, come to Chubby's to determine if that cutie pie you've been flirting with all night is worth any more of your time. Brightly lit, busy, sober-these things will help clear your head. That said, this is not the place to act like a badass! I've seen enough guys and girls with something to prove get slammed down, handcuffed, and tossed into a waiting police cruiser to know that the lovely people that run Chubby's will not tolerate any shenanegans inside the diner. Mind your manners, if you don't have anything nice to say, keep quiet until you get outside. Duh! There are plenty of cabs outside, waiting to take you to wherever you want to go. The staff will walk you to your car (if you parked in their lot, of course) and everyone from the cooking line to the doorman works hard to make sure you get what you came for, whether you know what that is at the time or not. Tip these lovely people well, for they work very hard for it.

It has to be for a special occasion and only one : having an omelette after partying quite late on week-ends. Chubby's is made for that ! If you ever go there from 1.30 to 5 AM on w/e you'll love it. Not sure if you're doing the same during the business hours of the week. Try it whenever you're hungry at night, you'll feel the real Chubby's, having your own music at your table by feeding the tiny jukebox with 25c coins, drunk or almost drunk friends around you, that IS Chubby's !

Good place if you have been out partying all night and don't care if you have good food or service. I will not be going back. One of the people in our group told the waitress(not that she asked) that the food was awful and she just laughed. Wow.

Couldn't believe how small the bill was.The staff were all very nice, and do a very good job.Reminded me of diners from years ago.Would like to take back to Indiana with me.Will go back when we visit again.

I wouldn't say that you could eat off the countertops at this place, but I was impressed by the customer service the few times I've been there. The service is quick and to the point and their food is what you'd expect: simple, greasy and actually pretty great! The burgers hit the spot and the serving sizes are large and in charge. You get an interesting mix of diners (not in a bad way). Each booth has a mini juke box with tons of music. A perfect outing after a show at Uptown or if you want to forget about that New Year's resolution of eating well.

We are fans of breakfast, and this place makes some of the best. It is so hard to choose what I want, but I am always happy. The hubby says that they make the best toast around - something about the way it is buttered. Who knows, boys are weird. This past time, I decided on a salad. I got the fried chicken salad, buffalo style. My only complaint is that no where on the menu does it say what is included in the salad. It came to the table with a hard boiled egg (yuck) and a ton of black olives (yuck) which, as you can see I do not like. I spent 5 minutes picking olives out of my salad. Once they were gone, I adored the food.

Chubby's is the perfect food place when you don't want to count calories or points or think about you doctor. It's real food made with real ingredients by people who know how to throw down. I had a big breakfast - eggs, bacon, biscuits and gravy. I ended up taking some home. There is a difference between huge portions of food and huge portions of great food. This was great food. Yea it's diner food and yea it won't end up on anyone diet plan but when you want food to warm your tummy and hang with ya this place is it. Another thing I liked was my glass was always full and the empty plates didn't hang around too long after we were done. They also didn't rush us out after we were finished. The place is clean and bright and even though they cater to the late night party crowd its a great family place too.

I came to this Chubby's after a night out while I was visiting Kansas City. This was a few years back but we were making our rounds at Hurricane down the street and needed a place to sober up. Came here for some good southern cooking but just got some breakfast, it's pretty typical food though, but the decor is pretty sweet.. going with the classic diner look. The staff was friendly and kept bringing us water because they knew we needed it. hahaha

A great staple of Kansas City night life (it's within stumbling distance of Westport) tarnished by the move to the new building. A sizable portion of the character that made Chubby's cool was lost to the move, the food is not great, in fact most of it isn't that good. The service is lousy, and the atmosphere (as stated before) has lost much in the desire of the ownership to 'modernize' Well Chubby's is an experience on a weekend night, much like the cantina scene in Star Wars. It is really a great people watching experience , and the food is well...ok.

Had a great breakfast there this morning. Ran into friends. The food was exactly what I ordered and wanted. Service was prompt and good especially since they were very busy. Seriously, Chubbys a special is not an announcement that you take credit cards. This was the oddest thing. I know it's new that they take credit cards and good for them but seriously it's not a special like you'd put on a menu. I really enjoyed the good and running into people I know. I'm going to have to remember this place when I'm headed to breakfast again.

Oh, Chubby's. I love you like I love kittens. Which is to say a lot, but it is tempered by pointy claws and the fact that you will poop on my bed and bite my feet. The food's typical diner food, which I love. Greasy, filling, cheap, hot, fast. The clientele is kinda the same. You could see Elvis; you might catch the herp; there may be crying. But it's the floor show that brings this from a "tepid" to a "hot" review...It's a carny truck crash with pancakes. I once saw a mom blowing smoke rings at her highchair-riding baby, no lie. One time, there was a fight in the parking lot over a crack pipe. Which made my selection at the at-table jukebox ever so much easier: "Saturday Night" by Elton John...duh. No matter what time of the day or night, I almost always order a ham and cheese omelet with hash browns and coffee. I'm never disappointed. It's enormous and tasty and totally worth the money. I rely on my meal companions for little tastes of other things, and we're always pretty freaking happy with the food. And the service! Oh my! The waitresses are always spot-on, even if you're not quite sure they're sober. Every so often, I'll get a server who might have just gotten out of rehab or the joint, but they're super nice, even if a little scary. Love you, Chubby's! Miss you!

sure this is a Westport dive, but this dive is without charm OR service. Waited 12 minutes for a menu, food was served 30 minutes later, after we went to the counter and asked for our food. We had some time to waste, the joint was nearly empty, the manager was nice but way too attentive to little waitressy who needed to go back home to mama. as for the food.EEEKKK. open a sealed bag of mashers and microwave. Check! open a package of frozen "roast" beef and microwave. Check! Open frozen mixed veggies, microwave. Check! don't bother to serve the drinks. Check! I would have a better dining experience at the McDonald's across the street. This was not my first time at this place, was my last no matter how hungry.

Nothing out of the ordinary about this diner. They do have alot of variety on their menu. I would say that everything about my experience early on a Sunday was just average. The restaurant was easy to find, good parking (in a private lot), decent service, and the options for breakfast were great. Good diner experience.

When I first moved here I got sucked into the Chubby's scene. I admit, I was the annoying college art student sitting in the back booth, studying, chain smoking, and slamming cup after cup of coffee sludge... every other night. Then I got burnt out on it. It was never really a good idea in the first place, but it had brighter lights than my dorm room so I couldn't fall asleep, and if I got sick of studying or the crowd got too loud, I always had the option of drawing the bum sleeping in the next booth, or the drunk bros across the way. After taking a much-needed-year-vacation from Chubby's, I finally took the plunge and went in at about 1 a.m. this morning. Boy, has it changed. the staff is still the same, for the most part, and they'll be there long after we're gone, I'm sure. The layouts the same. The food is the same. And I can't figure out what it is that makes it so different, but it's not the same Chubby's it used to be.

In addition to buffet's, I love diners. Big or small, they make me smile as the grease runs down my chin... That being said, I went in to Chubby's for the first time in a few months on Sunday for a late afternoon lunch as a time out from a game I like to call drink all day. I have to say, I love chubby's late in the afternoon because it's DEAD! No hammered bros or old men cat-calling the group of scantily clad drunk girls as they stumble in to pick at a plate of deep fried things. You know the group... There's always the one really wasted girl who face firsts it into the table as soon as they sit down... yeah. Anyway, I have found my soulmate of a menu item at Chubby's in their # 2 waffle breakfast combo. My scrambled eggs are always fully cooked (not runny at all!), my bacon always cut thick, and my waffle is always crisp and golden. This time, in addition to my waffle combo, my friend and I splurged and had mozzarella cheese sticks with a side of ranch. AMERICAN! I don't know, I just feel like you can't go wrong with the classics, and by my count (gawdy memorabilia, juke box, black and white tile floors, neon lights, cooks with facial hair, and friendly yet perhaps twacked out waitresses, etc.) Chubby's fits my criteria. PS! did I mention that they now accept credit and debit cards?

There are a few pros and cons. I like the looks of the place, gives you the old diner feel. Ive never been to chubbys in the day time, but ive been there several times at night, and I will say i have several strange memories about this place. The staff is.... Unique to say the least. I will say that if you have children, i wouldnt bring them there after sunset. The food is dennys style food so its ok. not the best. but its fun for a once in a while trip

Chubby's is a Kansas City icon. That doesn't mean it is good. The food is mostly of the "shipped in frozen off the Sysco truck" variety as opposed to being whipped up fresh in the back. The deep fryers work overtime, serving up a variety of greasy breaded things for late-night drunks to gorge themselves on, including a truly epic factory-produced chicken fried steak that is so stupidly huge it has to be served on its own plate. If you adjust your expectations accordingly, you won't be disappointed in Chubby's. Just don't go in expecting the kind of diner where they're lovingly crafting exquisite home cooking from scratch. It isn't the food, though, really. Chubby's packs them in on weekend mornings and has the obligatory post-church Sunday rush, but the correct time to visit Chubby's is between 1:00 and 4:00 AM on a Saturday or Sunday morning. It is a true cross-section of humanity, arguably somewhat less interesting and gritty than in years past, when the restaurant occupied the space where New Cafe Tandoor is today, but nonetheless Chubby's is still the best place to people watch after a long night of boozing it up. No other place that I'm aware of can you go and be guaranteed to see yuppies, gutter punks, drag queens, gangsters, crusty old curmudgeons, hipsters, emo-teens, drug dealers, and hippies interact.

The food wasn't that great, but it's a 24-hour Westport diner that everyone flocks to post-bar closing. My grilled cheese was sopping in butter, but I ate all $2.19 of it anyhow. The food was okay for the price. The service was decent. What's best about Chubby's are the non-food elements. Namely, the cast of characters that flock to this place and sit down for some grub in the wee hours. I also enjoy the plethora of jukeboxes [a lot of tables have their own jukeboxes even!] with both contemporary and older music. Seriously, with some of these jukeboxes you could take it back, WAY BACK... back into time! Despite not really being impressed, I still somehow thoroughly enjoyed my experience kickin' it late night with some friends, cackling away... just knowing everyone else in the place was doing the same. Even though my head tells me 'not interested', I know I'll be back. P.S. It's cash only.

My heart hurts... Chubby's food tasted like cigarettes - shoot. Sorry Chubby's. I honestly felt like I needed a heart transplant immediately after leaving Chubby's. No, I didn't feel like I was making a healthy choice when I decided to eat at a place called "Chubby's" in the first place. It was late, I was wandering around with friends...it seemed like a good choice at the time. Speaking of time, I really wish time machines existed.

The food is about what you'd expect from a diner. I would give two stars if this were any other sort of restaurant, but the fact that three gals who have major dietary restrictions (one is gluten-free, one eats paleo-style, and the third goes back and forth between the two) found stuff to eat bumps the stars to three. We all ordered a la carte from the breakfast sides. The over-easy eggs were done well and not rubbery. Lots of runny yolk for bacon dipping. The pork chops, while flavorful, were a tad dry. I dipped them in my tablemates' egg yolks. The sweet potato fries were indulgent and delicious. The coffee, however, was possibly some of the worst coffee I have ever tasted in my life. I couldn't even finish my one cup. Our server was friendly and attentive and kept coming back to refill the coffees of my two (insane) dining partners, who kept drinking it to my utter amazement. I'm glad I got to experience Chubby's for myself, but I won't go back of my own choosing.

I am pretty sure I found my late night, after drinking/dancing, go-to diner. Places like this serve to remind me of the artery-clogging, fatty and oily deliciousness that make up American cuisine. Too bad I don't exercise nearly enough to enjoy this type of food on a daily basis but I guess my heart's happier for it... The decor at Chubby's is such a throw back and I loved that it was clean and much more spacious than I originally guessed from the outside. Service was also quite attentive. My onion rings were not to my liking, however, and just came out sort of soggy and oily. The chili side was decent though the cheese side was just velveeta so nothing too special.. oh well, I guess my expectations can't be too high for this type of establishment. The menu was huge and there were lots of options to choose from.. next time, I'll ask for my onions "extra crispy" as my friend recommended and perhaps something more substantial to review about!

I hate to say it, but Chubby's and Town Topic take the cake when I'm drunk. Chubby's is nearly always open, which makes it appealing for the drunkard or the college student who's diligent about finals and needs a late night snack (I've been both of these). I typically go for the traditional hashbrowns smothered in cheese, because they're delicious and a simple, quick dish. The fully-loaded hashbrowns are beautiful, so i recommend anyone to try them at some point. Yes, this includes gravy (I found that out once when I was drunk). The servers are actually really attentive, even if you're eating at 4 A.M. Water is always refilled, and plates are always removed in a timely manner. I've never had a bad experience here. It's your typical late-night diner with a 60's feel. For a quarter, you can play a badass song (The Lady is a Tramp by Frank Sinatra) while you're eating. Once, I even had some awkward drunk men pay for my breakfast because they thought I was hot. Obviously they were wasted if they'd pay for a strangers' breakfast, but I promise I didn't mind. It's a great place to hit up late at night when nowhere else is open, especially if diner food sounds like it would hit the spot. They're not open on Mondays, however. It took me a while to figure that out!

Chubby's is best in the wee hours of the morning. Think sometime between 1 am to 8 am. At 1 am, the company can be a little scary, a little sketch, if you will...but mostly harmless. And the food is always good at this hour....anywhere. So if you want to order something weird, that no one in their right mind would order at this kind of place (a DINER) such as, shrimp cocktail, be my guest. It's 1 am. But you're missing out... At 8 am, the company is a little old, and hilariously entertaining. The entire place changes in mood, the staff is old at this hour, and the guests are old. Everyone just wants their coffee.. One time a man dressed as a vampire followed me into the bathroom. So...take a buddy. And if you know what's good for ya, order the cheeseburger and whatever you do, DONT, nix the onions. Mmmmmmmmm.

I love greasy spoons and Chubby's is a good one. Artery-clogging food and lots of it, at an amazing price. We stopped in for breakfast on a recent Thursday morning and found the place nearly full. But the food came fast and the waitress was quick and friendly. Definitely plan to be back.

Chubbys is great! My dad told me to try this place so I went there one night with my boyfriend. I got an omelette and holy moly. It was gigantic. You definitely get enough for what you pay. It was stuffed beyond belief with ham bacon and cheese. I loved it but it could have fed 3 grown men. The staff was very friendly and there was a gentleman that came to our table and asked how everything was, making it feel like a family owned joint. They had personal juke boxes at each booth too so we for sure had to get our Frank Sinatra on.

Good food anytime, every time. Except on Mondays, man I wish these guys were open on Mondays.

Perhaps I'm a little biased, but I absolutely love Chubby's. The atmosphere, the friendly staff, the food, all of it adds together to make Chubby's on Broadway one of my favorite eateries. Not only do you get friendly service, great food, and a wicked atmosphere, but in each booth is a little personal juke-box. I have many a fond memory of joining friends out on the town and ending the night with a delicious BLT made with love by the Chubby's staff, and at such a good price! I've seen some burger combo's at Chubby's at the price of a cheap McDonald's combo with twice the taste. Not a good place if you're on any sort of diet... unless it's a "see-food" diet. *buh-dum cha!*

Who doesn't love Chubby's after a great concert. I come to Chubby's expecting greasy food, hello, it's a diner! I got a cheeseburger, which by default, comes with grilled onions. My boyfriend ordered the sweet potato fries, which are a seasonal special. They were delicious and seasoned with a sprinkling of white dust, which could have been cheese or actual dust, not sure which. But the bottom line about chubby's, it's good and an interesting place to sit down and eat.

My husband and I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE Chubby's on Broadway!! The food is delicious and it goes perfectly with the old-fashioned diner atmosphere. There are jukeboxes at every table, which are stocked with the best diner music imaginable. The service varies from AWESOME to meh, but the food is always impeccable. Yes, it can be greasy, fried, or fattening, but that's why they call it Chubby's, right?! The only reason I took one star away, is because the neighboorhood it is in is SCARY and we have been creeped out and stopped in the parking lot by some less than upstanding citizens of KCMO. Overall though, worth dealing with the occasional weirdos! SO glad they are now in the Northland, as well!!!

Having spent years as a server, I tend to be really picky on service. This is why I love coming here. My coffee cup is always full, and there is always someone stopping by to see how everything is. I have never eaten lunch here, but I love this place for breakfast. The Italian bread they use for toast is sublime.

Diner food, delightful atmosphere, good service, interesting crowd. I can't seem to go to KC without stopping here - it just always happens. It's standard diner fare - not healthy, but damn good. Always a good time.

Their Italian Steak Sandwich is the reason I go here! Huge order of tots.

Terrible service and greasy food. Bleh, no thanks.

It was never the food. It was always the atmosphere and the history which was lost in the move, but, when you're drunk and in midtown, my advice is, "why the fuck not?"

I love Chubby's!! I've only been there three times. Twice I ordered chocolate-chip hotcakes, which are to die for. Then the third time I decided to go out on a limb and order an omelette. I normally don't like omelettes or anything which has eggs as its primary ingredient (with the exception of baked goods). It was fantastic, and I'd order it over and over again. Plus, the portion sizes are large enough that I can take it home and have another meal with it.

My family has sunday breakfast here at least once a month. We love the pancake special, best in the city as far as I'm concerned. The omelets are average and the bacon is really very hit or miss, but we keep coming back for the pancakes. They do make their own porktenderloin sandwich which is also good. I used to love going here after the bars closed on the weekends, it gets super crowded, but those days are over. Yes it is cash only, but it's so cheap we get breakfast for the whole family for less than $15. BTW - I think it may also be entirely smoke free now because of the city ban on smoking, so all you asthmatics that avoided it before - check it out!

I used to be a huge proponent of the late-night Chubby's rendezvous, often hanging out there until mere hours before I had to go into work the next day. Then, one fateful day a few years ago I went there with a girl and got a burger like I always had. Took a bite, tasted great. Took another, still tasted like the classic Chubby's burger. Upon my third bite I drew back with a mouth full of that wonderfully greasy beef, and with it, pulled a long, black hair from the middle of the patty. Losing my appetite immediately, I could not take another bite, and with that, I could never eat Chubby's again.

So I finally made it to this late night crawler haven, and my experience was fab. They were so attentive (the server), and very helpful. I ordered a burger, and it was superb, better then many places I must say. I will definitely be going back to Chubby's if I'm ever out past my bedtime.

We just move to KC six months ago and are always trying new places. We love eating breakfast out and are always trying new places. Chubby's looks like a cool fifty's dinner, but that is where the cool ends. The food is so horrible. My husband ordered a spinach omelet. The eggs were rubbery and the spinach frozen, but the bacon was petrified and uneatable. The biscuits were like mush and the hash browns were frozen and uncooked, and tasted nasty, really nasty. The coffee was acceptable as was the pancakes, but nothing great. I really don't know how they keep the doors open with food that horrible. If you are looking for a great place try our second choice First Watch. Our first choice we will keep to ourselves.

I have had some great times at Chubby's and I have had some great service in the past but tonight was exceptionally bad. I waited 20 minutes to see a server with only a handful of people seated. Chubby's is a neighborhood institution and they have some wonderful, even entertaining, wait-staff but management doesn't seem to manage well enough to weed out the bad servers.

"Cash Only"?!? Yeah. Cash only. But don't worry. There's an ATM on-site. You'll use it to buy classic, gargantuan breakfasts in a newly remodeled space. (You might say Cubby's was restored to its former glory, but it never looked this good before.) The food? Yowza. Sure the burgers are good. But the breakfasts are your best bet; pancakes swimming in butter and syrup, country fried steak and eggs, biscuits with sausage gravy. Don't forget the hash browns. You'll like the servers, too. These brassy ladies might critique your appetite-- or your outfit. Sit at the counter for faster service. Oh. And bring quarters. No, it's not that cheap. Nothing's that cheap. The coins are for the jukeboxes, stocked with oldies, at every booth. The bad news? The neighborhood is a little sketchy -- at night, anyway. And parking can be a pain. Tough it out.

How can I begrudge a place that has seen me through some of the best times?! Chubby's on Broadway has been a special go-to for me on two memorable occasion's... 1. The night of my play, my cast and crew came here after months of rehearsal and opening-night jitters. Everything went smoothly and we decided to celebrate to some greasy fries here, and although the food was forgettable, I know I remember the portions well! Most of all, I appreciated their willingness , at any time, day or night, to take us in and feed us, like their own children, in what seemed like hundreds of us, crammed into a long table, obstructing passer-by's and waitresses alike. Our server divided our check into 50 checks and still brought out everyone orders at the same time, warm and with a smile! KUDOS to the servers who must put up with a lot of crap (I can imagine, being open 24 hours on Main Street!) 2. For my friend's birthday, my friends and I had a great idea around midnight to tape a birthday video for her filming a bunch of strangers singing the Happy Birthday song and NO ONE got into it quite like the strangers at Chubby's! Everyone took part in this video, from the Polish old men at the counter eating pie, to the drunks at the corner booth, to the bikers at the back table...EVERYONE was singing Happy Birthday in our camera. Chubby's is a feel-good diner...although I can't promise the grease won't have you feeling TOO good on the drive home, while you're there at least, you'll be taken care of, guaranteed.

(biten from LOTR) "Three Onion Rings for the Rivermarket-kings over I-35, Seven for the West Bottom-lords in their halls of reason, Nine for Mortal Yuppies doomed to drive, One for the Dark Chiefs in their dark season. In the Land of Midtown where the Broad Ways lie. One Onion Ring to rule them all, One Onion Ring to find them, One Onion Ring to bring them all and in the darkness bind them In the Land of Midtown where the Broad Ways lie." Boy this place is an icon. It's seems like it is one of those strange diners, like in Pulp Fiction, where it's a hyperbole of a diner. But it's not. It's just a diner that happens to have checkerboard tile, and little juteboxes at each booth. Nevertheless, their food backs up their homage. I can say they have gut-sticking biscuits and gravy, and even though the chunks of the 'sausage' are sometimes just chopped up hamberger patties, it's still 'a good thing', as Martha Stewart would say. In addition, their coffee was very tasty. And the wait staff was very down to earth and friendly. It wasn't as homey as Town Topic, but it's getting there. At any rate, the breakfast certainly fits the bill, and you won't walk away unhappy, if not just for the ambiance. UPDATE: They are currently renovating, after some relatives of the original owners bought the place back and decided to give it a new look. It should open in a few weeks? UPDATE 2: The renovation is done, and as far as I can tell, it still has the checkerboard diner-feel, though I haven't been in (chagrin).

Chubbys look I had to give you five stars... Not because of the food or service... Those probaby warrant a 4, but because when I'm wasted at 3am I can always count on you to be there for me... Except Mondays. I order the same shit everytime which is delicious, but never a good idea... And... yep... oh yea it's cheap too.

One of those places that is cool when you're drunk, but the one time you eat there sober, you get mad that this is what you've been eating all this time.

I first experienced Chubby's, like many people, at 3:00 AM after I'd consumed a lot of beer. From it's late night cop doormen to it's breaded tenderloin that's so good you'll taste it all the next day, Chubby's is the 24-hour greasy spoon that every city needs. While it's not a regular stop for me, it's good to know it's there when I need it.

It's open late. It's a diner. What more can I say? Oh right, avoid the buffalo wing chicken tenders at all costs! Which is to say, be careful what you order here. Also, beware of bad 80's songs that are sometimes chosen on the jukebox.

When i lived in KC, Chubby's was the spot I would go to after the clubs....in the middle of the night. Chubby's is sort of an after the club tradition. their breakfast menu is extensive. the food is usually good. this weekend i went to kansas city and went to chubby's after a night out. i ordered a veg omelette. the plate was FILLED with olive oil/grease when it was delivered to my table. i complained and they wouldn't take it off my ticket. i've always been a supporter of chubby's, but my experience this weekend changed that. chubby's has a more home-like feel----more than the chain breakfast spots like ihop, dennys, perkins. they have juke boxes at the tables. its a good experience. im chalking my recent disappointment up to it being a bad night. they usually have good food to hit the spot for the drunk clubbers. its not a classy place or expensive. its just what you need after too many beers and lots of dancing. i wouldn't go there during the day or for any other reason other than going after the club. going after the club puts the icing on the experience.

I'll give it an A-OK, mostly because it's the only diner you're going to find near Westport open at 3am. When I lived in midtown it was a staple for decent diner fare at a very low price. Mostly I would recommend their breakfasts. Their waffles and pancakes are undoubtedly some of the best in town. My main beef is that service can be spotty, even when business is pretty slow. But if you need a quick late meal after the bar or the show, this is the place to go.
